NEWSLETTERS

May 2018
Dear Friends,

Much to talk about in this brief newsletter:

First up is our luncheon after church tomorrow. A team of men are cooking for the women in honor of the Mother’s day just past. I think we are pretty well set with food but if any of the men want to add to the fun, a dessert or side dish would be welcome. Remember to bring something non-perishible for our monthly Jublilee Center collection.

Men’s Retreat is June 1 – 3 at Hord’s Creek Lake near Coleman. We are staying in the beautiful Army Corps of Engineers park facilities at the lake and will indulge in our usual round of ranch cooking and leisure including fishing, hiking, just sittin’ on the porch and a shooting session at the sheriff’s range. Our study topic will be a Biblical vision for brotherhood among men. Cost is $70 per person and there is room for guests to join us. More details are attached to this email. Please do let know for sure if you are coming by next Sunday morning.

A Retreat for the Women is also June 1 – 3. Our Diocese is also sponsoring a retreat that weekend the beautiful mountain conference center in Sacramento, New Mexico. Details of that opportunity can be found in the brochures at the entrance to the church. See Marianne if you would like to attend with her.

Diocesan Newsletter. I have also attached a copy of our diocesan newsletter which includes a letter from Bishop Mark, a description of the diocesan retreat and news from other parishes.

Wear Red tomorrow! It’s a Pentecost Sunday tradition. Red reminds us of the coming of the Holy Spirit like tongues of fire. Tomorrow is also the 6th anniversary of the founding of All Saints. Much to be thankful for!

Your fellow servant,

Fr. Tom

July 2018
Dear Friends,

SUMMER SALADS AND ICE CREAM, SUNDAY, JULY 15TH AFTER CHURCH
Our “Second Sunday” luncheon has been pushed back a week to avoid the weekend after the 4th of July. For salads, bring anything that strikes your fancy: chicken salad, potato salad, broccoli salad, lettuce salad, antipasto salad, taco salad – you get the idea, just surprise us. If anyone would like to take on cooking some hamburgers, let me know. Same with homemade ice cream – again, let me know. Otherwise, we’ll have the store bought kind in several flavors.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAPO, GRACE AND DAVID!
This past Wednesday, Grace gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Mother and child are doing wonderfully. This coming Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm, there will be a naming ceremony for the baby. This is great celebration which is traditionally done one week after a baby’s birth. This entire parish is invited to join us. We’ll be in the Parish Hall.

NEW WEDNESDAY EVENING STUDY BEGINS ON JULY 18TH – 1ST AND 2ND CORINTHIANS
The letters to the church in Corinth are a virtual catalogue of issues faced by the early church. From the nature of the Holy Spirit, to faith in the Resurrection, to church discipline, to the meaning of the Lord’s Supper, to marriage and the meaning of Christian community, it’s all here. This study will expand your grasp on how to think and live as a Christian. There is no better way to grow spiritually than to study God’s Word. The study begins at 6:30 with dinner following for those who can stay.

A WORD FROM 1ST CORINTHIANS: DESIRING THE HIGHER GIFTS
Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. 1st Corinthians 12:27-31

As always, if you are in need of pastoral care, please do feel free to call me at 432-853-2751.

Your fellow servant,

Fr. Tom
